5 Things I Learned During NYFW

There are a few things in life I never thought I would ever find myself writing. This is one of them: I, PAOLA TORRICO, WENT TO NYFW (😵😵😵).

Attending NYFW was a complete dream realized. I remember going through magazines and making collages on my closet door after high school, and wondering how magical attending a runway show would be. I would watch Tim Blank's fashion month coverage on Style.com and be completely mesmerized by the shows each season.

So, to celebrate what was one of the craziest, most exhilarating few days of my life, I thought I would share a few of the things I learned during NYFW.

SHOP THE POST:

1. PLAN IN ADVANCE
Planning is key! I didn't get my first invite until two weeks before the start of NYFW, and so I started making hotel and transportation arrangements as soon as I possibly could. NYC is complete mayhem during NYFW and most of the hotels are either completely booked or they will charge an arm and a leg (especially if you try to book 2 weeks prior to NYFW!). As a last resort, we ended up getting a cute little AIRBNB near Central Park, but I would 100% recommend booking things about 1-2 months in advance!
2. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO MANY OUTFITS
Okay, so this may seem obvious, but just when you think you have things in order, the unexpected happens. While I had a few outfits in mind, I ended up changing an outfit at the last possible minute and it was complete mayhem trying to order things online with limited time. So, I would try packing about a month earlier so that you can avoid stressing over packages not arriving on time! Also, I would suggest taking a whole array of different outfits that you can mix-and-match if need be in case you are not 'feeling' an outfit the day of!
3. BE PREPARED TO WAIT
This one actually hit me completely by surprise! Instagram makes it seem like you get your ticket, go in, sit for a few minutes, the show starts, and then you are off to the next show. While most shows are only 15-25 minutes long, the waiting time can be 30-45 minutes! However, I really didn't mind this because I was incredibly excited to be there and soak it all in!
4. BRING A SNACK
The day I had two shows in one day, we didn't eat until 4pm! We were so caught up on making it to each show on time and going from one place to the other, that we had no time to eat anything. I would recommend maybe taking a granola bar or stopping for a green juice or smoothie in between shows (if you can) for a little pick-me-up!
5. SOAK IT ALL IN
The moment the lights dimmed and the music started during the Custo Barcelona show (my first show!), I kind of had an out of body experience. I was completely overcome with emotion and absolute happiness that I can't really describe in writing. All those years of hard work, wishing to one day attend NYFW came to that single moment. I would be lying if I said I didn't cry a little (I was front-row too, so hopefully no one has evidence of this on Instagram, haha!). From the lights, the music, the beautiful pieces-I was completely overcome by emotion and it was something I will never forget. While I did manage to get some content on my Instastories, I made it a point to just sit back, and enjoy the show.
There you have it guys! Hopefully, this was somewhat helpful when it comes to planning for NYFW! So excited to start planning for next season!
